Rachael Yamagata leads 'Elephants' on tour
Singer/songwriter Rachael Yamagata has mapped a run of fall headlining dates to support her recently released new studio set, "Elephants ... Teeth Sinking Into Heart."
The singer's latest outing (she completed a previous slate of fall shows earlier this month) kicks off Oct. 28 in Washington, DC, the first of 17 cities on Yamagata's itinerary, which extends through late November. Details are below.
"Elephants ... Teeth Sinking Into Heart" hit stores earlier this month on Warner Bros. Records. The 15-track set was produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley), with John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band) taking the reins on a couple of songs. Guest performers include singer/songwriters Ray Lamontagne and Azure Ray's Maria Taylor.
"I love 'Elephants' because of the way it sort of came to me," the singer recently told LiveDaily, singling out one track from the new record as her favorite. "It really was one of those magical, channeled songs that I almost feel like I had nothing to do with. I just wrote it while I was running down a mountain in Woodstock.
"I had been going through certain relationship issues in my life and was very inspired by nature and the woods. I had this overwhelming appreciation for just being alive and yet I was so saddened by this other thing. These lyrics merged out of nowhere and worked to really set up the first half of the record and be the first track."
Earlier this year, Yamagata released a three-song digital EP, "Loose Ends," through her official website.
"These were songs that weren't quite right for 'Elephants ...,' but they were ones that I'd played live, that fans had requested," Yamagata said. "I was really pleased with the versions that we got, but they didn't quite fit into the full body of work that we were presenting on this record--the mood, the sonics, they were older songs ... things like that. I still wanted to get them out there, though."
Yamagata released her debut album, the Alagia-produced "Happenstance," in 2004.
