Mixing it up may be the new status quo, but of all the supergroups to hit the scene this year, Them Crooked Vultures [ tickets ] were perhaps the most eagerly awaited. In fact, they were already growing an extensive fan base via Twitter before their publicist had sent out a single press release.

The band is made up of Josh Homme ( Queens of the Stone Age [ tickets ]) on vocals and guitar, Dave Grohl ( Foo Fighters [ tickets ]) on drums and John Paul Jones ( Led Zeppelin [ tickets ]) on bass. Last night (10/1), they kicked off their first outing, dubbed the Deserve the Future Tour, at Stubb's BBQ in Austin, TX.
