August Burns Red Gallery Spotlight: New York City - Oct. 18, 2009

Band names can stem from anything--funny stories, lyrics from songs, or even made-up words. The Lancaster, PA-based Christian metalcore band August Burns Red takes its moniker from a source as macabre as anything you might find in a Stephen King novel.

In 2003, the members of the newly formed group (some still in high school) experienced horror first-hand. According to a 2007 interview with drivenfaroff.com, the band's vocalist at the time, Jon Hershey, broke up with his girlfriend August. In a fit of rage, she burned his dog Redd alive. The next day, the local newspaper printed the headline “August Burns Redd." In that interview, guitarist Brent Rambler said, "It really affected Jon, so when we were picking a band name, that was one that stuck in his head, so he decided to use it."

LiveDaily photographer Christopher Owyoung caught up with August Burns Red at New York City's Gramercy Theatre last week (10/18) and here are some of his shots.
