Donovan tour marks 40 years in music
Folk icon Donovan , currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of his career in music, will bring his Hurdy Gurdy Tour to the U.S. later this month.
The veteran folksinger will play a Nov. 19 solo show in Kent, OH, as part of the Kent State Folk Festival before kicking off the full-band portion of his tour with a Nov. 23 appearance in San Francisco.
Donovan presently has shows scheduled until the middle of December, and tickets for many dates are on sale now.
Donovan--who rose to prominence alongside the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez during the folk-rock boom of the mid-'60s--released "Beat Cafe" last year on Appleseed Records. The album was his first full-length studio release since 1996's "Sutras," not counting the children's album ("The Pied Piper") he released in 2002.
"The new generations must create their own 'beat cafe'," Donovan said in a press release. "It can be described as a state of mind, an oasis of culture and an actual cafe. I have created a virtual cafe on my new disc to encourage the youth to continue to explore."
