Singer/songwriter Conor Oberst has lined up a raft of summer shows with his Mystic Valley Band as they continue to support their spring release, "Outer South."
The trek, which kicked off Wednesday night (6/30) in Louisville, KY, continues tonight (7/2) in Bearsville, NY. A few of Oberst's upcoming dates will support Wilco on their summer tour, with the first opening spot coming July 10 in Wilmington, DE. Oberst's trip will end with an Aug. 29 slot at San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. Details are included below.
The singer's latest album, "Outer South," hit stores in May. The set is the first recorded effort credited to both Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band. The group--guitarists Taylor Hollingsworth and Nik Freitas, bassist Macey Taylor, keyboardist/trumpeter Nate Walcott and drummer Jason Boesel--is also backing Oberst on the road.
Oberst assembled the band to help him produce his self-titled fourth solo album, which surfaced last August and shot to No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. Sample cuts from both albums with the Mystic Valley Band are streaming at the singer's website.
Oberst's main music vehicle, Bright Eyes, released its sixth studio effort, "Cassadaga," last year. That album's lineup includes Bright Eyes full-timers Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott along with special guest performers including Gillian Welch, Janet Weiss (formerly of Sleater-Kinney) and Ben Kweller.
